Back in 2017, the Malaysian government talked about launching the Electronic Government Unclaimed Money Information System (eGUMIS) to make it easier for the citizens to check if they had any unclaimed monies. Unclaimed monies are basically made up of inactive bank accounts, unclaimed expired fixed deposits, insurance payouts and other miscellaneous interests.
As of October 31, 2019, the total unclaimed monies stood at around RM10 billion (source). Back then, we have to queue up at the Accountant-General’s Department (AGD) to check and submit claim form for our unclaimed monies. But now, we can check & claim our monies online via eGUMIS portal!
Step 1: Head over to eGUMIS portal and register for an account. Click 'Sign Up' to proceed once you’ve filled in the necessary details.
Step 2: Log in with your new credentials and update your profile. Then click 'Save' to proceed.
Step 4: Check all boxes (there's no reason not to claim all your money, right?) and proceed to application.
Step 5: Add Payee details, tick the T&C check box and proceed to submit if all the details are in order.
6. Email a copy of your IC (front and back) together with active bank account statement within 14 days to: [email protected]
Remember to specifiy the claim reference number in the email subject line.
That's it! Now just wait for their email to notify you if the money has been transferred to your bank account.
Not only for yourself, if you have elderly family members, do help them to check as well!
*Please be reminded that the Ministry of Finance or the Registrar of Unclaimed Moneys never appoint any individual/firm/company as agents for the refund of Unclaimed Moneys. Be extra careful if anyone claims that they can help you claim the money.
