Former drug abusers' criminal records could be expunged if they abstain from drugs or alcohol for five years, according to a proposal made by the Malaysian Substance Abuse Council.

This is to increase their chance of getting hired in job applications, thus giving them a second chance in life.

If this action is taken, the government will be providing thousands of communities of former drug abusers with a great service since drug usage has been rendered illegal in this nation, MASAC adds.

This statement by MASAC comes after the government's decision to abolish the mandatory death sentence, even for some drug offences, which they applauded.
