A mining company's dinner event in Kelantan has landed in hot water after a viral video showed a woman performing a belly dance in revealing attire, leading to a RM10,000 fine from local authorities.
The Tanah Merah District Council (MDTM) imposed the penalty on the event organizer under Section 6 of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Control Enactment 1998. Kelantan's Local Government, Housing, Health, and Environment Committee Chairman, Hilmi Abdullah, confirmed that the fine has been paid as of December 24.
In response to the incident, the organizer has submitted a formal letter of apology to both the state government and local authorities for violating regulations. They have also entered into an agreement with local authorities, committing to seek consultation before organizing any future events.
The incident comes at a crucial time as Kelantan prepares to implement stricter entertainment regulations. Starting January 1, 2025, similar violations will face significantly higher penalties, with fines increasing to RM50,000 under the newly approved 2024 Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Control Enactment.
Hilmi Abdullah emphasized the importance of early application submission for entertainment events, urging both individuals and companies to comply with proper procedures. "This helps facilitate the review process and ensures compliance with all regulations," he stated.
