Apples next-generation iPhone SE has been a topic of speculation for quite some time, but recent leaks suggest its launch might be imminent. A well-known case maker, Spigen, inadvertently listed cases for the iPhone SE (4th Gen) on its website, adding fuel to the rumors. While the listings were quickly removed, the images have already spread across the internet, hinting at key details about the upcoming budget iPhone.
From the leaked images, the new iPhone SE seems to take design cues from the iPhone 14, featuring a 6.1-inch Super Retina OLED display. This marks a significant shift from its predecessor, the iPhone SE (3rd Gen), which had a smaller LCD panel. Another major change is the removal of Touch ID, making way for Face ID authentication for the first time in an SE model.
Performance-wise, if Apple follows its usual pattern, the iPhone SE (4th Gen) is likely to be powered by the latest A18 chip, the same processor expected in the iPhone 16 lineup. This means users would get top-tier performance at a more affordable price, albeit in an older chassis.
Another noticeable design tweak is the introduction of an Action Button, replacing the traditional Alert Slider, aligning with Apples recent design choices. Additionally, USB-C charging is expected, as Apple moves to comply with EU regulations.
Camera upgrades might also be in store, with reports pointing to a 48MP main camera on the rear and a 12MP front camera for selfies. Storage options are unclear, but 128GB is likely the base model.
With all these leaks surfacing, a quiet online launch could be around the corner. Meanwhile, the iPhone SE (3rd Gen) is still available in Malaysia, with prices starting at RM2,199 for the 64GB model. Whether the new iPhone SE (4th Gen) will offer better value at a similar price point remains to be seen.
