The production company WebTVAsia declared that the sequel to the film Pulau will be released next year despite concerns about the steamy scenes. 

According to the producer, Fred Chong, he is currently in the process of drafting the entire production aspect of the film, including shortlisting the cast of actors who will be involved in the second film.

"There is no doubt, I am ready to produce a sequel to the film even though I am aware that Pulau has received opposition from some critics and local audiences."

"However, that does not discourage me from releasing the sequel to the film which will witness the collaboration between Malaysian and Indonesian production houses."

"It is possible that this time I will choose a different cast involving both countries. There are already some actors that I have shortlisted, but cannot be announced yet.

Fred clarified that the sequel to the film this time will not present a continuation of the first version and will instead focus on a fresher story.

"However, for me to announce in detail about Pulau 2 does not feel appropriate yet. Only, what can be said, is, like the first movie, Pulau, I will still maintain the element of racial diversity in Malaysia."

"I don't want to get into anything about other topics. I still have many other projects to focus on this year, so just wait for Pulau 2 next year."

Apart from that, Fred stated that he and the crew are proud that the film has gotten massive success in neighbouring Asian countries such as Vietnam, where it has recorded a collection of RM400,000 within 4 days of screening.

"This definitely marks a significant milestone for the Malaysian film industry as no other films have ever received that amount of revenue."

"So for me, it's a good development to see how much outsiders appreciate the work of local films."
