These skincare myths got everybody fooled at one point in their lives so as a clarification, in case anyone still believes in them— they‘re false.

1. Skincare Is Exclusive For Women
As long as you're human with skin attached to your body, you're gonna need skincare maintenance. Easy as that.
With that being said, even though the industry separates women's skincare from men; they're not only exclusive to each gender. Don't buy into the marketing strategy, men can use women's skincare too. Men's skincare, however, tends to be harsher to the skin so women can just skip it.
2. The More Expensive The Product, The More Effective It Is
You might be thinking, a moisturizer tub that costs more than RM 1K must have some miracle ingredient in it that justifies the high price point.
Drugstore and independent brands are just as good, if not better. As long as your skincare products contain ingredients that are proven to work, like vitamin c, retinol, niacinamide, alpha arbutin etc; then the product should be effective— no matter the price.
3. Wearing Makeup Causes You To Age Faster
In general, makeup cannot interrupt or speed up your aging process. That simply doesn't make sense.
However, if you don't properly remove your makeup, all the impurities will eventually clog your pores and invite a plethora of other skin problems. But no, it won't fade your "youthful looks".
4. If You Have Acne, You're Unhygienic
It is a big misconception to accuse someone of improper hygiene if they get acne. Acne breakouts are mostly caused by hormones, not lack of face-washing or a certain diet. One could have the cleanliest daily routine and still suffers from acne because of the imbalance in their hormones.
5. Pores Can Open And Close
For the last time, the pores in our skin are not muscles that can contract or expand if exposed to a certain temperature of water. Pores can be expanded, yes, but other than that it stays in size. In truth, it's our skincare routine that determines the visibility of our pores.
