An 'instafamous' has been given a one-day jail sentence and a RM400 fine by the Magistrate's Court for stealing items worth over RM100 from a local supermarket. Magistrate Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin imposed this sentence on 31-year-old Rumaisyah Yahya, who admitted to the theft.
The stolen items, valued at RM108.18, included room fresheners, toothpaste, shower gel, bottled water, broccoli, and clothes hangers. The theft took place at a well-known shopping center on Jalan Ampang at 4:30 PM the day before the court's ruling.
The charge falls under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence and the possibility of a fine. For repeat offenses, the law allows for both imprisonment and a fine.
Furthermore, the court ordered the woman to begin serving her one-day jail term immediately from the date of her arrest. If she fails to pay the RM400 fine, she may face an extended prison term of three days.
