"Drinks Are Expensive These Days!" Malaysian Auntie Goes Viral After She Was Filmed Bringing Her Own Drink To A Fancy Dinner

A Malaysian makcik has become an online sensation for her clever strategy of bringing her own beverage to an upscale dinner, bringing smiles not only to her son but also to people across Malaysia.

In a brief 12-second TikTok video, shared by her son and quickly gone viral, the woman is seen dining at a restaurant with a delectable-looking rack of ribs in front of her. What makes the video intriguing is her resourceful method. She pulls out a yellow tumbler, fills it with what appears to be iced tea, and then discreetly places the tumbler beneath the table.

The son playfully captioned the video, saying, "I invited Umi to have steak, but she decided to bring her own beverage from home because the drinks were expensive."

Netizens found the woman's clever tactic quite amusing, with many of them agreeing that it was a practical way to enjoy a nice meal without breaking the bank on costly restaurant beverages.

Some of them even shared their own testimonies, showing that such behavior is not uncommon in Malaysia. Someone commented, "My nenek brought her own rice cooker to a restaurant as she insisted on only eating basmathi rice." and another narrated: "my mom would bring her own 'cili kicap' to sushi restaurants."
