Residents of Kampung Padang Lalang, Ayer Paabas, Melaka, were left in disbelief when two goats were found stranded on the roof of a house. The unusual sight prompted the intervention of the Alor Gajah Civil Defence Force (APM), who managed to safely bring the animals down.
Homeowner Rokiah Salim, 60, was the first to discover the unexpected visitors. The rojak seller recalled hearing loud noises coming from her roof while she was tidying up her house around 9:45 am.
"I initially thought it was monkeys," she said. "It never crossed my mind that goats could climb that high and even stay there for days!"
Unsure of what to do, she quickly contacted the Alor Gajah APM for assistance.
Interestingly, Rokiah suspects the goats came from the neighboring village, Kampung Rantau, as no one in her area owns goats. She mentioned seeing a few goats grazing near her house in recent days and, despite attempts to chase them away, they kept returning.
Responding to her call, APM Officer Kapt (PA) Shahrulnizam Mad Shah dispatched five personnel to the scene on Friday (Feb 28). Rescuing the stranded goats, however, was no easy feat.
"The goats likely climbed onto the roof from a zinc awning behind the house, which is quite close to the ground," he explained. "But catching them was tricky as they were wild and difficult to approach."
The rescue team carefully used a snare and rope to bring the animals down, completing the operation in about 30 minutes while ensuring no damage was done to the roof.
The unusual incident left residents amused, with many wondering how the goats had managed such an impressive climb. Fortunately, thanks to the APM's swift response, the rooftop adventure ended safely for both the animals and the homeowner.
