Can COVID-19 be transmitted through mosquitoes? The answer is NO.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the new coronavirus cannot be transmitted through mosquito bites.
Although mosquitoes can spread some diseases including Zika virus and malaria, there is no scientific evidence to suggest mosquitoes are transmitting the new coronavirus at the time of writing.
COVID-19 is spread from person-to-person in droplets from an infected person when they cough or sneezes. The coronavirus can be spread through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose as well.
Although coronavirus has been found in a blood sample in infected patients, there is no evidence it can spread through blood-sucking mosquitoes.
Even if a mosquito picks up a dose of virus in a blood meal, there has been no information nor evidence to suggest that the mosquitoes would be infected by the virus.
Thus, if the mosquito is not infected, it would not be able to spread the virus to another person.
As there is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19, you are strongly advised to wash your hands regularly and avoid close contact with other people. Let us do our part by duduk diam diam di rumah ;)
