Sex could be such a foreign and unfamiliar territory when explored for the very first time. The awkward fumblings, the nervous touches, and overall the intense anticipation of it all... anyone is bound to mess up. We've all been there- - and now there are many things we wish we could've known earlier about being physically intimate with another person.
Here are some things we would tell our younger selves about sex:
1. Penetrative sex isn't the only way to achieve orgasm
Every body is different, and some people reach pleasure that's not only restricted to vaginal orgasm. There are always other areas and techniques you could explore. Really, you'll be surprised.
2. Sex isn't supposed to be one-sided
It is crucial to find a partner that prioritizes your pleasure as much as theirs, or more. If you find yourself enjoying it less than the other person, then you should either broach the subject or consider ditching them.
3. Communicating during sex is not as embarrassing as you might think
It's not wrong to express how you wish to be treated in bed. Don't be afraid to be open to exploring each other during the process! We promise, you'll have much better sex.
4. Aftercare is just as important as the act itself
It could be something as simple as cuddling after sex, or a sex post-mortem when you and your partner talk about what each other enjoyed the most. However you prefer it to be, don't skip this part if possible.
5. Always, always, pee after sex.
For some reason, this advice rarely comes up whenever the topic of having sex for the first time comes up. But seriously ladies, please don't ever skip this, or you'll risk contracting UTIs.
