In a shocking and tragic incident that occurred at a palm oil plantation area in Tasek Gelugor, Seberang Perai Utara, a heartless husband reportedly set his 35-year-old wife on fire using petrol at their residence. The woman suffered severe burns, approximately 27% of her body, in the disturbing incident that took place last night. The authorities are currently investigating the case, and the perpetrator remains at large.
At around 9:30 PM last night, the dreadful incident unfolded, leaving the 35-year-old woman with critical injuries due to the extensive burns she sustained on various parts of her body. The local police received a distress call from a concerned neighbor around 10:45 PM, alerting them to the horrifying occurrence.
According to the initial findings of the investigation led by Asst. Comm. Mohd. Asri Shafie, the couple, aged 36 and 35, respectively, resided in a dwelling allocated for plantation workers. They had been married for 15 years. The tragic event arose from a domestic dispute, highlighting the dangers and consequences of unresolved family conflicts.
The couple's son, a witness to the dreadful event, disclosed that he and his siblings had overheard arguments taking place outside their room. The situation escalated when the son tried to leave the room but found the door blocked from the outside. Despite managing to exit the room, he was met with a heart-wrenching sight of his mother engulfed in flames at the back of their residence.
The alleged perpetrator made a futile attempt to douse the fire using cloth, but it only intensified. He subsequently fled the scene, seeking refuge amidst the palm oil plantation area. Meanwhile, the injured woman sought help from her son and neighbors, who promptly called for an ambulance. She is currently undergoing treatment at Hospital Sungai Bakap.
The police have launched an intensive search operation for the suspect with the assistance of the K9 Tracker Unit. The alleged perpetrator has a troubling criminal record, making the pursuit for justice even more critical.
