A national kayak athlete, Siti Nurul Masyitah Elias, was seriously injured in a horrific accident allegedly caused by a drunk driver.

The incident occurred last Saturday on the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) Highway in Johor, while she was en route to Southkey.

According to witnesses, she was hit and dragged for approximately 600 meters by a swerving car.

The shocking news was later posted on the Instagram account of the Mechanical Engineering Student Association (PPJKM).

Siti Nurul is currently receiving treatment at Columbia Hospital for severe injuries. It’s reported that she frequently commutes the route- from the polytechnic to her home- to care for her sickly parents, with both requiring medical care due to spinal issues and dialysis.

Following the accident, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Adam Adli, has confirmed that the ministry will offer necessary assistance if required.
