One of the busiest places in Penang, full of activity, cars and bikes (until cannot find parking!), is Penang’s Little India.

With so many things happening around you, sometimes you get a little culture shock and don’t know where to go to first or even what to do there.

Here are some of the things you can do at Little India, Penang:

1. Grocery Shopping

When we say grocery shopping, we don’t mean buying meat and all that la, what we mean is shopping for Indian spices and items that are hard to find in other places.

In Little India Penang, you can find many grocery shops that sell some unique items. Some of the things that you can get are the Neem toothpaste or the special hair oils.

You can also buy your spices in bulk here! They have curry powder, turmeric powder, chili powder and also spices like cumin, cinnamon, cloves and more!

2. Traditional Indian Jewelery Shopping

If you like earrings, bangles and those sorts of things, Little India is definitely a place to visit to expand your collection.

All these accessories are suitable to be paired with traditional Indian attire or even modern attire to add a little cultural influence on your modern outfits.

3. Random Home Décor Shopping

While walking through the streets of Little India, be sure to keep your eyes open for random home décor items.

Some shops do sell some colourful and unique tapestry that can be hung on the walls of your rooms to add a little pop of colour.

You can also find dreamcatchers and other hanging décor items while walking around here.

4. Flower Shopping

Penang’s Little India is full of colourful flowers. Look to your left, there’s flowers, look to your right there’s flowers. There are flowers everywhere.

So, get some vibrant flowers to liven up your home or even to give it to someone. They’ll definitely appreciate the sweet gesture.

++ Since it’s the fasting month, there is a pop-up Ramadhan Bazaar at Little India. You can stop by to enjoy a wide selection of food and drinks.

One of the special Ramadhan only drinks that you should definitely get is the Jigarthanda. It is a cold beverage with syrup, pistachios, jelly, kidney beans, groundnuts, corn and barley.

Jigarthanda literally translates to “heart cool” as it is known for its cooling properties, so perfect for quenching your thirst after roaming the streets of Little India Penang.
