KOTA KINABALU: A man almost lost his leg after being bitten by a crocodile while looking for "lokan" in Sungai Giling, Tuaran near here yesterday.
In the incident at about 2pm, the 40-year-old man was said to be unaware of the presence of crocodiles around the area and stepped on the crocodile which then devoured his left leg.
The victim is understood to have fought with the crocodile for several minutes before successfully escaping.
The victim who suffered severe injuries to his left leg was rushed to Tuaran Hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, Tuaran District Police Chief, Mohd. Hamizi Halim when contacted confirmed the incident.
He said the victim was reported to be in stable condition and had received treatment at Tuaran Hospital.
