In a protest against the recent fare restructuring imposed by Grab, a group of Grab riders in Penang gathered at Udini Square, E-Gate yesterday. The demonstration aimed to voice their discontent with the new delivery fee and bonus framework implemented by Grab, effective January 16th.
Grab's restructuring includes a reduction in base fares, accompanied by enhanced incentives. These increased incentives specifically target peak-hour deliveries, distant pick-ups, and extended wait times for pick-up deliveries. Grab asserts that these adjustments are designed to guarantee fair compensation for bookings that demand more time and effort from riders.
Despite Grab's intentions to create a more equitable compensation system, the new framework has faced criticism from some Grab riders. The riders argue that the changes are unfair, prompting calls for a boycott of the popular ride-hailing and delivery service.
