A killer accident struck again in Sungai Siput. 4 victims, including a baby, did not survive the accident. They were traveling in a Proton Saga when the collision happened at Km 37 of Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Kangsar last night.
According to New Straits Time. the victims were identified as Mohamad Faiz Bakhri, a 28-year-old policeman, ranked Lance Corporal; his 30-year-old spouse, Nik Idayu Nik Hassan; their 16-month-old baby, Muhammad Faqih Irshad and Faiz’s sister-in-law, Nik Ifieka Nik Hassan, 28 years old. All deceased were confirmed to have died on the spot.
The sole survivor of this accident was Faiz’s 3-year-old elder son. Muhammad Fariz Iskandar. However, he suffered severe injuries and was immediately sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh.
Another vehicle that was involved in this accident was a trailer lorry. Unlike the serious condition of the others, the driver suffered minor injuries in the collision.
It was reported that the family, who was from Kelantan, was on their way to the Police Quarters of Sungai Siput after having dinner. The investigation initially disclosed that the trailer lorry driving that was going to Kuala Kangsar loses control of his lorry and wheeled into the opposite lane and eventually crashed into the Proton Saga.
"Faiz, who was driving, could not avoid the lorry in time and hit the side of the heavy vehicle. Some of the construction equipment on the trailer then collapsed onto the car,” the district police chief Superintendent Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin stated in a statement. He further revealed that the deceased was taken to the Sungai Siput Hospital here for post-mortems; while the injured toddler was transferred to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for further treatment.
The police have arrested the trailer lorry driver, aged 26-year-old and that this accident is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
Meantime, Chief of Operation of Fire and Rescue Department of Sungai Siput, Jeffrey Abdullah, mentioned that they received a call regarding the accident and sent 10 firemen to the scene.
"Upon arrival, we found that the bodies of the baby and his mother had been extricated from the damaged Saga by members of the public while the three other victims were still pinned to their seats," he added.
