During a session at the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Tuesday, Mohd Asri Mat Daud, the Kelantan State Executive Councillor for Islamic Development, Preaching, Information, and Relationship Seranta Hub, revealed that a total of 533 marriages involving underage couples were recorded in the state over a span of four years, commencing in 2019.

Addressing a query from State Legislative Assemblyman (ADUN), Zubir Abu Bakar (Pas - Mengkebang), Mohd Asri disclosed that between 2019 and 2023, 546 applications for marriage from underage couples were received. Out of these applications, 533 were granted approval, while only 13 were rejected.
Expressing satisfaction with these statistics, Mohd Asri highlighted this approval rate as a significant achievement during the Second Conference (Budget) for the First Session of the 15th Kelantan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) held at the Kota Darulnaim Complex. He emphasized the positive aspect of the high approval rate amidst the total number of applications submitted during this period.
