Central Melaka District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, revealed that initial investigations have uncovered a shocking case of child abuse, resulting in the tragic death of a three-year-old boy. The suspect, believed to be a friend of the child's mother, admitted to aggressively pressing on the child's stomach and repeatedly kicking him, causing a shattered skull and internal organ damage.
According to authorities, the suspect confessed to violently kicking the child due to the child's act of vomiting on his beloved sofa the previous night.
The investigation further revealed that the suspect aggressively pressed on the child's stomach multiple times, in addition to the relentless kicking, which led to the child's head hitting the floor.
As a consequence of this cruel act, the child's skull was shattered, and his internal organs suffered severe damage.
"Upon arriving at Melaka Hospital at 6:50 a.m., the unconscious child was immediately treated in the Red Zone and received respiratory assistance for over an hour. However, doctors found no response from the victim before pronouncing him dead at 9:15 a.m.," stated Christopher in a press release.
Christopher added that the 25-year-old suspect's residence in Cheng was where the child, accompanied by his 24-year-old mother (who was also a friend of the suspect), was brought for medical treatment at 5:30 a.m. yesterday due to frequent vomiting.
However, 40 minutes later, the suspect contacted the child's mother, informing her that the child had fallen and lost consciousness. Both of them then rushed the child to Melaka Hospital.
The child was subsequently taken to the Melaka Forensic Medicine Department at 10:30 a.m. for further examination. The initial medical evaluation revealed signs of injuries to the head and body.
The biological mother of the child and her male friend were apprehended by the police at the hospital for further investigation.
An investigation has been launched under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 to determine the motive behind the incident and conduct further inquiries.
Christopher advised the public against speculating or spreading unsubstantiated news, as it may cause distress among the community.
Both suspects have been remanded for seven days, starting today until July 13, to assist in the ongoing investigation.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman.
Earlier, both suspects, dressed in lockup attire, arrived at the premises of the Melaka Court Complex in Ayer Keroh at 8:30 a.m.
