According to Harian Metro (HM), the refrigerator a 'Singer' model had been a part of his life for over 42 years. Purchased by his late father for just RM300, the fridge was still in working condition, making it a rare and valuable antique. The sentimental value attached to it made the decision to sell a difficult one, but ultimately, Mohamad Azli decided to part with it.
"My father bought this fridge, and it has been in our family for generations. Its not just an old appliance, but a symbol of my struggles and efforts in life," he shared.
His TikTok post quickly went viral, amassing over 1.5 million views and attracting a mix of reactions from netizens. While some appreciated the sentimental and historical value of the fridge, others were skeptical about its high price tag.
Despite the mixed responses, interest in the fridge skyrocketed. Within a day, Mohamad Azli received multiple direct messages from potential buyers, with three individuals expressing serious interest. In the end, he sold the fridge to a collector from Melaka, who did not negotiate the price and picked it up on the same day.
"The buyer was an antique collector, and he saw the value in this fridge. I didn't sell it because I needed the money, but because I believe it will be more appreciated in its new home," he explained.
As part of his goodwill, Mohamad Azli plans to use some of the proceeds to help those in need. Regarding the online reactions, he took them in stride.
"I welcome all feedback, positive and negative. Some people called me crazy for pricing an old fridge so high, but others understood the value of vintage items. In the end, the fact that it was sold proves that it holds worth," he said.
Mohamad Azli's unexpected sale serves as a reminder that nostalgia and history can turn everyday items into valuable treasures, especially for those who appreciate the past.
