A viral social media post highlights a scam syndicate involving school students who are allegedly kidnapped and threatened in order to extort ransom money from their parents.
A Twitter user exposed the tactics of scammers targeting parents and elderly individuals with school-going children.
"New scam tactic: My mother received a call from a scammer claiming they kidnapped me and demanded ransom money."
"They even had a woman screaming in the background (sound effect). They usually target parents with school-going children."

Another social media user also shared their similar experience of receiving a threatening WhatsApp message.

"Rafidah, your child is in my hands. If you play around, we will kill your child."
Furthermore, the scammer sent several photos showing individuals bound and held at knife and machete point.
