ALOR SETAR: Kedah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIK) busted a couple for khalwat last night even though the woman claimed that the man who was at her house in Jalan Telok Wanjah only stopped to deliver food.
JHEAIK's Chief Assistant Director of Enforcement Division, Sheikh Radzi Abdul Mutalib said the couple, aged 18 and 20, were arrested at about 12.30am after receiving information from the public.
He said the man who worked as a restaurant assistant in Pokok Sena near here said that he stopped by the woman’s house to take shelter from the rain.
"The woman involved, who is also a shop assistant in Alor Setar, lied, claiming that the man only stopped by to deliver food around 11pm," he said when contacted here today.
He added that the couple who lived alone in the house failed to show any valid marriage documents during the inspection.
"The case is being investigated under Section 25 of the Kedah Syariah Criminal Enactment 2014 because it is suspected of khalwat and if convicted can be fined RM3,000 or two years imprisonment or both, if convicted," he said.
