New Rules For MCO Phase 2 That You Must Know

The second phase of the Movement Control Order MCO started from April 1 to April 14, as announced by the Malaysian Prime Minister.

According to The Malaysian Reserve and The Star, for phase 2 of MCO, although leaving your house for grocery shopping and the operation of essential businesses are allowed, there will be some limitations that Malaysians have to follow for the next 14 days.

New rules that are implemented in the second phase:

1. Operating hours of grocery outlets, restaurants, food delivery services, and petrol stations are limited to between 8 am and 8 pm.

2. Private vehicles, including e-hailing and taxis, are allowed to be out only between 6 am and 10 pm.

3. Operation hours of public transport services remain from 6 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 10 pm.

4. Only one person is allowed in private vehicles, EXCEPT during emergency time.

5. Travel hour for commercial vehicles that are used to transport goods is between 7 pm and 7 am.

6. All recreational and social activities are not allowed, whether they are held in public or gated areas.

7. Disabled, including individuals with autism can be outside for therapy as advised by specialists, but group therapy is prohibited.

8. The number and locations of setting roadblocks have increased.

9. Shopping online is encouraged and avoids any contact with the delivery service person.

10. The price ceiling for face masks has been set at RM1.50.

11. Malaysians are allowed to travel for 10 km from their residences.

12. Malaysians shall get the prior written permission of the police officer in charge at the nearest police station of his or her residence if he or she needs to move from 1 place to another due "to a special and particular reason".

13. Essential services reduced to 10, including, food services, water, energy, communications, the Internet, security & defense, solid waste, public cleansing management & sewerage, healthcare & medical services, banking & finance, and e-commerce.

14. No person shall gather or be involved in any gathering in any premises within any infected local area, whether this for religious, sports, recreational, social or cultural purposes. However, a person may gather or be involved in a gathering for the purposes of a funeral on the condition that the attendance to such ceremony shall be kept to the minimum.

15. Malaysians who came back from overseas must undergo a health examination upon arrival.
