As reported in Free Malaysia Today on May 9 that there are 60 confirmed COVID-19 cases reported in a chicken factory in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan. While the premise was closed for medical checks and sanitization activity, many couldn’t help but wonder that, are the chicken safe for consumption as the worker handling them are infected with COVID-19. Adding on to this surmise is that there are cases of pets infecting the COVID-19 virus all around the world.
In a separate report by China Press stated that the chickens in the market are safe for consumption. The Department of Veterinary Services Putrajaya has released a notice pertaining to this issue stating that the virus did not affect the chickens.

The department emphasized that chickens are incapable of transmitting COVID-19. Although the workers in the chicken factory were infected, they could not have spread the virus to the chicken during the chicken slaughter process.
“The World Health Organization (WHO) also confirmed to the world on April 7 that all processed foods are safe for consumption. The report shows that after inspecting the chickens in China for COVID-19, the result came back negative.”
