If there is one undisputed uniting factor for Malaysia and Malaysians, it is food! And, laksa is often the comfort food of choice for the majority – regardless of your regional preference.
Recognizing this, Dignity for Children Foundation (Dignity) is offering its Malaysia Merdeka meal of Nyonya Laksa served with homemade sambal ikan bilis and seven-spiced roasted Ayam Berempah (roasted chicken), finished off with bubur cha cha and Monin’ Rose Milk tea – a truly Malaysian multi-cultural feast.
This muhibbah meal is put together by eat X dignity, a transformational enterprise by Dignity. The enterprise is run by Dignity students and members of the B40 community from Sentul/Kuala Lumpur area.
Said Natalie Tan (Head of Transformational Enterprises): “We are particularly proud of this Merdeka meal offering because it truly brings together all the flavours and cultures of our diverse Malaysia. Indeed, we can come together in and through food.
If you don’t fancy a full meal, ala carte options are available. The Nyonya laksa is going for RM15 while the Ayam Berempah (whole chicken) is RM69.90. All prices exclude delivery charges.
And, in line with the kitajagakita spirit, Dignity is also collaborating with another NGO, Generating Opportunities for Learning Disables (GOLD), to offer their beautifully-painted tiffin carriers as a top up with the Merdeka meals.
Designed by autistic artist, 20-year-old Amirul Abshar who is autistic but talented in art, customers need only add on RM80 to purchase the carriers together with their meal orders. Proceeds from the sale of the tiffin carriers will go directly to GOLD to generate income and upkeep its youth centre.
“What’s more, we are offering a meal in which the ingredients are cultivated by our students. The chickens are raised at our farm in Bentong and are organic too!”
