In a move against police corruption, the Anti-Corruption Unit conducted an unannounced internal inspection, leading to the discovery of police officers hiding a total of RM6,289 in cash within several red envelopes concealed in police station cabinets.
The surprise raid, executed by the Kuala Lumpur police integrity team, took place yesterday afternoon, targeting 12 police officers and personnel in a Kuala Lumpur police station.
During the operation, the raiding team uncovered two waist pouches in the police station's cabinets, concealing multiple red envelopes containing cash ranging from RM1 to RM100. It was revealed that the total cash found in these envelopes amounted to RM6,289.
Upon interrogation, the officer who claimed ownership of the waist pouches claimed that the money in the red envelopes was a gift from friends who operate a motorcycle shop, car sales store, and automotive parts store.
Promptly responding to the discovery, the raiding team reported the incident to the Integrity Unit at Bukit Aman Police Headquarters. This has triggered a comprehensive investigation to determine whether the officer acquired the cash through illicit means.
