An eight-year-old child's six-month-long ordeal, suffering abuse at the hands of his biological father and the father's current partner, finally came to an end thanks to the vigilance of a concerned neighbor. A foreign woman who came by the house noticed the child's distressing condition, prompting her to alert a neighbor who took swift action by contacting a non-governmental organization (NGO) on Friday.
The Johor Community Welfare Organization's founder revealed that the boy had been living with his biological father and the father's 43-year-old partner, along with her three-year-old daughter, in a flat in Taman Pulai Jaya, Skudai. The child had been living with them since his biological parents' separation in 2021. The child's biological mother originally hailed from Klang, Selangor. Following their divorce, the father, who works as a factory van driver, brought him to Johor Bahru.
As a result of the neighbor's report, the neighbor and the Indian Residents' Association of Kangkar Pulai filed a report at the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters (IPD) on Friday, leading to the prompt arrest of the child's father and his current partner. The child underwent a health examination at HSA on the same day and is currently receiving treatment.
N. Bathmarajan, Chairman of the Indian Residents' Association of Kangkar Pulai, revealed that upon receiving the complaint, their team visited the child's home to assess the situation but couldn't intervene directly. Subsequently, they contacted the police and the Department of Social Welfare. The police investigation uncovered signs of bruising, burns, and old scars on the child's body. When rescued, the child had sustained injuries, particularly to his feet, and it was difficult for him to move around.
Bathmarajan stated that, based on the child's account, the abuse had persisted for over six months. After being rescued, the child expressed to his mother that he can no longer endure the abuse, saying he'd "rather die than endure more of it."
Neighbors attested to frequently hearing the child's cries before his rescue. He was also prevented from going to school. His weight had plummeted significantly, from approximately 55 KG six months ago to just 29 KG at the time of rescue.
