In a startling revelation, a Thai man, Apichart Prommathat, recently shared a hair-raising survival story on his Facebook page, Der Baag (เดอะแบก), recounting an incident where a leech attached itself to his friend's eye during a hiking trip.
Apichart narrated the incident, disclosing that he and his friend were on a trek, and the unsettling encounter occurred when his friend, engrossed in finding a perfect photo spot, momentarily placed his camera on the ground. Unbeknownst to them, a leech made its way onto the camera's viewfinder.
As his friend picked up the camera, the leech, unseen, crawled onto the viewfinder. When he brought the camera to his eye to capture an image of some trees, the leech swiftly latched onto his eye, feeding near the tear duct. Apichart described his friend's shocked and painful scream, followed by over 30 minutes of attempts to remove the leech, resulting in a reddened eye.
Admitting their lack of knowledge and proper equipment for leech removal at the time, Apichart later sought advice from trekking specialists and friends. The crucial recommendation for fellow trekkers emerged: carry salt water or salt during trekking. Applying salt or salt water to the affected area facilitates the removal of leeches.
The post garnered a flood of reactions from followers, with one woman offering a unique reminder to fellow trekkers, urging them to be cautious about leeches in private areas, emphasizing the difficulty in removing them from such regions.
