An 11-year-old girl has been admitted to the hospital after exhibiting serious side effects suspected to be caused by consuming chocolate biscuits laced with marijuana. The incident, which took place in Perak, Malaysia, has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of children.
The Perak Chief of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, confirmed that the police received a report from a medical assistant at the Lawin Health Clinic in Gerik. The report was made after the young girl experienced shortness of breath, headaches, and nausea following the consumption of biscuits prepared by her father.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the girl had consumed biscuits suspected to be laced with marijuana, leading to the symptoms she experienced. The authorities suspect that the presence of marijuana in the biscuits was responsible for her adverse reactions.
The victim was immediately taken to the Gerik Hospital and subsequently referred to the Taiping Hospital for further examination and treatment. According to the latest update, her condition is now stable. As of now, a urine test to confirm the presence of marijuana has not been conducted, as the priority remains on providing necessary medical care.
In connection with the incident, the police have arrested the 38-year-old father of the victim, who works as a rubber tapper. An initial urine test conducted on the suspect revealed the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a psychoactive component found in marijuana. The suspect will be remanded until June 3 to facilitate further investigation under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
This distressing incident raises serious concerns about child welfare and the need for greater vigilance to protect children from exposure to illicit substances.
