Kangar District Police Chief, Superintendent Wari Kiew said the police who received the information found the victim covered in blood unconscious at his house.

“The brother of the victim who lives only 30 meters from the victim’s house told his house was visited by a man who was indeed known by his family.

"The 34-year-old suspect is believed to be in a drunken state and told the victim's brother to see for himself the condition of the victim who was covered in blood on his head.

"The victim's brother took the suspect to his brother's house to check on his brother's condition and the suspect took him through the back door directly to the victim's bedroom where they found the victim lying in front of the bedroom door shirtless, wearing only a cloth with traces of blood on the victim's head." he said in a statement, today.

He said the victim's younger brother also found broken hoe fragments on the side of the victim's body.

"Seeing the victim lying unconscious, the suspect fled the scene while the victim's younger brother immediately asked his son to contact the police.

“Police who arrived at the scene later managed to track down the suspect at his house and proceeded to arrest him.

"The suspect is an unemployed man from Assam Kumbang, Taiping, Perak, and the results of a record check found that the suspect had been punished twice for causing injury according to Section 324 of the Penal Code," he said.

Wari said the initial police investigation found that the victim and the suspect knew each other, and the victim had been living alone at the residence since his wife died a year ago.

"The victim has three children who live in Kedah and the cause of the incident is believed to be because the suspect tried to ask for money and cigarettes from the victim.

"We understand that the suspect often comes to the victim's house because he wants to ask for cigarettes and the victim will allow him to enter the house to smoke cigarettes together," he said.

He said further investigation at the scene found a gray money bag believed to belong to the victim in his bedroom drawer.

"The results of the inspection also found that the victim's wallet did not have any money or any documents, but the victim's mobile phone was found missing.

"As a result of the initial interrogation, the suspect admitted to being involved in the incident, but we managed to get a remand for six days for further investigation," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
