Johor doesn't want to be a beggar anymore and beg for funding from the government!
Earlier, Johor Regent Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim attended the Johor Youth Program event and shared his opinions, saying that Johor does not belong to Malaysia and that they are partners. There is no need to beg. He even proposed the establishment of the "Johor National Alliance" (Gabungan Bangsa Johor, GBJ for short) to better defend the rights of Johor.
"How long will Johor beg? Johor does not belong to Malaysia, we are partners, so we should be treated like partners in the beginning."
According to Oriental Daily, His Royal Highness called for reforms to the federal system to treat Johor as a partner and return 20% to 30% of the state tax revenue paid annually to Johor.
"There is about RM48 billion to RM49 billion in revenue a year, but they only return RM1.4 billion. How can we take care of all the people in Johor with RM1.4 billion a year?"
His Highness said that the destiny of Johor should be controlled by the people of Johor rather than decided by the central government, and suggested that Johor politicians follow the example of Sarawak and form a "local alliance" to better defend Johor's interests.
"We just want to get the rights and demands that Johor deserves. What I am saying is, when will Johor no longer be a beggar?"
He stressed that this is not to create riots, nor to fight the government or overthrow any political party. These are just his personal views. If the mindset does not change, Johor will always be a "beggar" and will always need to apply for funding from the central government.
