The restaurant located in Bordeaux's city center had reportedly preserved the sardines themselves, as disclosed by the French Directorate of Health (DGS) on Tuesday.
Dr. Benjamin Clouzeau, based at Pellegrin Hospital in Bordeaux, revealed that the woman had been admitted to a hospital near Paris upon returning from the restaurant outing with her partner. Tragically, she passed away shortly after, while her partner is currently undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit.
As of Wednesday, a dozen individuals were still receiving emergency medical care, with five of them necessitating respiratory support. The victims hailed from various countries, including the United States, Ireland, Germany, and Canada.
A German national has since returned to Germany for medical treatment, while a resident of Barcelona, Spain, has followed suit, according to Dr. Clouzeau.
The group had chosen to dine at the Tchin Tchin Wine Bar restaurant between September 4th and 10th, a renowned establishment cherished for its wine and cuisine by tourists visiting the southwestern French city. Their order consisted of sardines that were preserved in-house by the restaurant's owner, as per information provided by DGS.
