Today's education system (including primary, secondary, and even tertiary levels) has to comfort a long list of regulations set by the Ministry of Education. The long list of regulations forms a boundary and acts as a stumbling stone for educators to play their roles in the education industry effectively. Students, particularly at the tertiary level, complain that they are seeking industry knowledge instead of textbook knowledge. However, educators and policymakers should step on their breaks and reflect what's the actual and fundamental purpose of education. To teach or to guide? Students are the future of the world and we always hear that "do what you love; follow your passion".Students are learners who might have no idea what their passions are. Hence, they attend schools and universities, seeking guidance from educators to discover their passions. However, the current education system focuses on delivering lectures via transmitting information and knowledge from textbooks to the students instead of spending time to understand each and every student in order to discover their strengths and weaknesses that will ultimately facilitate them in discovering their passion.
With proper and professional guidance offered by the educators, students who are also the future generations could discover their passion and develop goals that would ultimately contribute to society. Therefore, guidance should be the spotlight in today's education system over teaching.
