There was a time when the lesser the oil on the face the better. However, gone are those days!
Recently, the latest buzz in the beauty market has been facial oils, and upon hearing reviews, as well as doing up some reading, we're here to tell you why.
What are facial oils?
Our faces produce sebum naturally, but as we age, that sebum decreases. This isn't good news. Oils are required to maintain our skins delicate pH levels, its elasticity as well as the overall health of skin. Thus, we need some form of product to help with that as we age.
What are some of its benefits?
Barely scratching the surface, here are but a few:
1. Anti-inflammatory properties
2. Balances oil production
3. Reduces redness
4. Hydrates skin
5. Anti-aging properties - wrinkles/fine lines
6. Locks in moisture, hydrates skin
7. Softer, smoother skin
8. Rebalances skin
9. Repairs damage
10. Restores healthy complexion
11. Treats skin conditions such as dermatitis, rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis
12. Boost skin elasticity - plump skin
13. A healthy glow to skin
But what if I have oily skin?
Believe it or not, oil is attracted to oil. Thus using facial oils, actually prevents breakouts from happening instead of increasing your chances at an acne-filled face. Instead of increasing oil production it controls the access of it.
Facial Oil Myths
1. It clogs pores
2. It causes breakouts
3. People with oily skin do not need it
4. They should only be used when your skin is dry
5. They are heavy on your skin
When do I use it?
Daytime - last step before sunscreen
Night time - last step after/before moisturizer
Do's & Don'ts
- Use 4 to 6 drops, less is more
- Dab it on your face, don't rub
- Don't replace your moisturizer with it, use both
- You can add a drop to your moisturizer or face cream before applying
