Singer-songwriter Billie Eilish recently made an empowering statement about body shaming and stuns her fans on the first night of her 'Where Do We Go?' world tour in Miami.
Last year, she told NME about why she wears baggy clothing.
"I've spoken a lot to female artists about this because, if you're not a female artist you probably don't think about this. If I was a guy and I was wearing these baggy clothes, nobody would bat an eye."
She also made this message clear in a fashion advert, explaining that she wears baggy clothes so that,
"nobody can have an opinion because they haven't seen what's underneath 【my clothes】. Nobody can be like, 'she's slim-thick,' 'she's not slim-thick,' 'she's got a flat a**,' 'she's got a fat a**,'."
Billie Eilish doesn't wish for how her way she dresses affect her talent as an artist. She wants the people to see her for her talent rather than her looks and appearances.
Known for her unique sense of style with baggy and oversized clothes, Eilish took off her clothes in a short video played at the concert between songs while slamming body shamers.
"You have opinions, about my opinions, about my music, about my clothes, about my body," she said in a voiceover to that video.
Many videos can be found on the web about her removing her clothes on stage during that concert.
"Some people hate what I wear, some people praise it, some people use it to shame others, some people use it to shame me," Eilish continues.
In the video, Billie Eilish can be seen removing her clothes until she's left standing in her underwear and then disappearing in a pool of water.
"If I wear what is comfortable, I am not a woman. If I shed the layers, I'm an sl*t. Though you've never seen my body, you still judge it and judge me for it."
The video received a lot of support and cheers from the fans at the concert.
"We make assumptions about people based on their size. We decide who they are. We decide what they're worth."
At the end of the video, Billie Eilish concluded by asking "If my value is based only on your perception? Or is your opinion of me not my responsibility?"
