According to the Health Director-General, Datuk Seri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, most of the COVID-19-related deaths in Malaysia are due to late treatment. He added on that most of the people came to hospital when they were already in stage 3.
He further explained the five stages of COVID-19 infection.
Stage 1:
No symptom shown but tested positive with COVID-19
Stage 2:
Mild symptom shown.
Stage 3:
Having some form of pneumonia but the patient does not require oxygen aid.
Stage 4:
The patient will require oxygen aid. The patient's health condition would decline very fast and go into Stage 5.
Stage 5:
When patients could breathe properly and will intubate and put the patient on a ventilator.
The Health Director-General also mentioned that one of the death cases as an example, which the patient had been experiencing difficulty in breathing for three days before he seeks for attention.
Along with late treatment, there are also some other factors that cause COVID-19-related death, including age and complications in health conditions.
