Klang: A local man who set fire to his family's house after failing to get money from his mother was arrested in Kampung Bukit Kapar here, yesterday.
North Klang District Police Chief, S Vijaya Rao, said the suspect, in his 30s, was arrested around the scene at about 6pm.
“Police received a report of the fire from a 37-year-old woman working as a clerk at 3.30pm
"According to the woman, she got information that her house in Kampung Bukit Kapar was on fire while at work before rushing home.
"Upon arrival at the house, the fire was raging, and firefighters were trying to put out the fire," he said in a statement today.
Vijaya Rao said, the results of the investigation found that the house in question was a semi-detached village house.
“The woman is the suspect’s nephew and lives next door to his house.
"Before the incident, the suspect met his mother (the woman's grandmother) not far from the scene to ask for money, but she refused to give it to him.
"Before leaving, the suspect threatened to burn down the house if his mother did not give him money," he said.
He said the investigation also found that the suspect was an unemployed man who had just come out of prison for drug offenses.
"The suspect was remanded for four days starting yesterday until October 15, the case is being investigated according to Section 435 of the Penal Code," he said.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire Director, Norazam Khamis when contacted said that they received a call from the public regarding the fire at 3.34 pm yesterday.
“Upon arrival at the location, the fire was raging where the fire involved a single-storey house, a class C building.
“The estimated destruction is 90 per cent and the fire was brought under control at 3.50pm by the fire brigade from the Kapar Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) and Kota Anggerik BBP.
"However, no casualties were reported," he said.
