In a surprising discovery, a local patient in Seremban undergoing minor treatment at a private hospital was astounded to find additional charges for waiting in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) room, coupled with fees related to the use of monitoring equipment, all without any specified reason.
The patient, who preferred to remain anonymous, discovered a RM11.60 charge for a 30-minute wait in the A&E room and an additional RM34 for the transportation of 'patient monitoring equipment,' as reported by FMT.
Expressing bewilderment, the patient shared, "I only wanted to get an injection. I assumed the fee covered blood pressure checks and other examinations conducted within the room, but to my surprise, the hospital billed RM10.60 for monitoring vital signs."
The patient further explained, "Had I known about the waiting fee in the A&E room, I would have chosen to wait outside until my name was called. However, the hospital staff insisted I wait inside. It was not my preference to wait within the room."
Expressing dissatisfaction, the patient disclosed intentions to file a complaint with the Ministry of Health, seeking clarification from the hospital regarding the unanticipated charges.
