A 50-year-old woman tragically lost her life after falling into a six-foot-deep drainage hole while hiking at Jalan Kolam Cherok Tok Kun earlier today. The victim, identified as Oh Ai Chin, was discovered approximately 5 kilometers away from where she was last seen.
According to NST, the Bukit Mertajam Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the incident at 12.59 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of a rescue team to the scene. Operations Commander Mohd Azmi Zakaria confirmed that the team, with the assistance of the police, successfully recovered the body of the victim.
"With the help of the police, we managed to retrieve the victim's remains, believed to have fallen into the drainage hole while hiking and swept away," said Mohd Azmi. "We then handed the remains over to the police for the next course of action."
Penang has been experiencing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flash floods over the past three days, which may have contributed to the hazardous conditions in the area. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the incident.
