What is MyDigital?

MyDigital- the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint to transform Malaysia into a net exporter of technologies and digital solutions. It complements the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030. The blueprint plans to create high-income jobs, improve digital literacy, giving better digital access to education and telemedicine, and also enhance digital literacy nationwide.

Some notable highlights:

1) Expected to create 500,000 new job opportunities in the digital economy, which will contribute 22.6% of Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030.

2) RM21 billion will be invested through the National Digital Network (JENDELA) over the next five years. This is to strengthen internet connectivity through a fixed-line optical fiber network.

3) RM15 billion will be invested to roll out 5G in Malaysia over a period of 10 years. It was expected that 100% of Malaysians will gain internet connectivity by 2030.

4) Cloud service provider (CSP) is in the spotlight with an investment of between RM12billion to RM 15 billion over the next five years. Among which conditional approvals were granted to Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Telekom Malaysia.

5) Increased cybersecurity to strengthen data protection and privacy of digital activities and transactions.

6) Government to launch the Cloud First strategy where there will be 80% of public data to be migrated to hybrid cloud systems by the end of 2022. This could reduce the administrative cost going forward. Big Data, AI, and IoT could be used to analyze the data and further strengthen government services.

7) RM1.65 billion to be invested by several telecommunication companies to improve the connectivity of the international submarine cable network until the year 2023. It will improve the stability of international data transfer and lower the internet cost.
