With the implementation of the Movement Restriction Order starting on the 18th of March 2020, we are encouraged to stay at home and avoid going out or gather in crowds. Restaurants and markets are still open for business as usual but if you do not plan to go out, you might be wondering what you could eat every day to remain healthy.
Many people have shared on the social media posts of their meals and it is most often instant noodles and canned food which they have stocked up before the movement restriction order has been given. While we can bear with this for the first few days, our body is also in need of nutritious and fresh food to keep us healthy and make sure that our immune system is strong enough to fight any diseases. Here are some suggestions on some easy to cook meals.
1. “One Pot" Meal
This is something really popular with the Chinese as it is very easy to cook. All you have to do is throw in all the ingredients that you love including chicken, mushroom, ginger, garlic, onions and Chinese sausages with a cup of rice into the rice cooker and you will have a scrumptious and well-balanced meal within an hour.
2. Pizza
If you have an oven at home, try baking your own pizza. It is very easy and you could even add all sorts of toppings that you like and create something you could not have bought. Add some seafood and olives to make it more nutritious and balanced. Here are some recipes to make a pizza by Simply Recipes and kitchn.
3. Okonomiyaki
One of Japan's most popular food, it is very easy to make and is very delicious. You might not have any Japanese sauce to go with it but eating okonomiyaki just on its own is delicious enough or you can add a little bit of mayonnaise. And like the other recipes, you could add anything as well ranging from chicken, seafood and even ramen. Here is an easy recipe from Just One Cookbook.
4. Porridge
It might seem distasteful to have a bowl of plain porridge as a meal but you could add something special into it to make it more appealing. You can add some century eggs or salted eggs with chicken or fish to complete the dish. Some have also suggested adding pumpkin, carrots or potatoes to make the meal healthier.
5. Noodles
If you wanted to cook something really easy, then boil some soup and cook some noodles. Just remember to add some vegetables, a little bit of onion and some minced meat or chicken. Try to make it as healthy as possible. Stay away from processed food like meatballs and fish balls. You could also try your own stir-fry noodles with this recipe.
