The 47-year-old deceased Belly Mujinga worked at Victoria Station in southwest London. Mujinga and her colleagues were refused when they asked the management to provide masks or other protective equipment. Although two of them were very worried, they were still working at the ticket office in the lobby of the station.
However, a man who claimed to be suffering from COVID-19 coughed and spat at them. Mujinga subsequently became unwell and was admitted to the hospital on April 2 and died three days after staying in the hospital.
According to her husband, Lusamba Katalay, in their last video call, his wife asked him to pray for her and not to let his 11-year-old daughter see her lying on the hospital bed. Sadly, he received a call saying she passed away the next morning.

He mourned that Mujinga’s death had destroyed the world of him and his daughter.
He pointed out that he is usually very rational, but now he is very frustrated and is likely to lose his mind to attack the suspect. Yet, he knew that his anger could not bring his wife back.
Lusamba will hold a funeral for his wife, but the number would be limited to 10 people, and his mother-in-law is likely to be unable to attend due to the restriction order.
He also asked clarification from the Government as to why she had not been provided PPE, saying the lack of protective equipment also put him and his daughter in danger.

On the other hand, a cab driver, Trevor Belle (61 years old) also died of Covid-19 after being spat at by a passenger who claimed to have COVID-19. Belle’s partner, Kelly Esqulant (50 years old) has written to Boris Johnson to highlight the incident.
Esqulant praised hospital workers who tried to save his life. She also mentioned that his husband was inspirational, strong-minded, and very truthful. She said he often worked for more than 60 hours a week to support the family.

Esqulant admitted the family would plausibly never know whether the spitting incident caused Belle contracting coronavirus.
The spitting incident happened on 22 March. According to Belle, the perpetrator was white with an Irish accent and he ran off after spitting at him.
Esqulant says her partner fell ill four days later and he was hospitalized on 31 March after he struggled to breathe. On 18 April, Belle had passed away.

Esqulant has given her consent for a sample of Belle’s blood to be used in a project attempting to sequence the genomes of up to 20,000 Covid-19 patients and victims to help understand how a person’s genetic makeup could influence susceptibility to the virus.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman stated they are aware of this incident and they would continue to look for the report that associates with this incident. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, up to 12 months of prison would be charged if the suspect coughs or spits to attack an emergency worker or common assault if used against others.
