Preacher Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew, popularly known as Ebit Lew, had a new witness testify in the ongoing trial at the Tenom magistrates' court. The seventh witness revealed today that while analyzing a mobile phone, she discovered a browsing history containing visits to pornographic websites.
Police senior audio-video analyst, Latifah Abdul Aziz, aged 43, disclosed that the websites were accessed through the Google app on the phone. The findings of her analysis were compiled into a DVD-R disc, which she handed over to the investigating officer handling the case.
During examination-in-chief conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nor Azizah Mohamad, Latifah stated, "Based on the screenshots I took, there were several websites suspected of containing obscene content and others that were not." She further confirmed accessing some of the websites to verify their pornographic nature.
Additionally, Latifah mentioned that among the other websites visited on the phone were Wikipedia, where searches were made regarding sexual harassment, relevant laws in Malaysia, the risk of imprisonment for sharing obscene jokes, and legislation on sexual offenses.
Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani granted permission for the accused, Ebit, to be absent from the trial today. Ebit's lawyer, Ram Singh, informed the court that his client was currently performing the haj pilgrimage in Makkah.
During the morning session of the trial, Latifah informed the court that another phone she examined contained 219 screenshots of WhatsApp conversations starting from March 4, 2021. She also provided details regarding the phone's call records.
Ebit, 37 years old, is facing a total of 11 charges, which include the accusation of insulting the modesty of a woman in her 40s by sending explicit messages and images between March and June 2021. The charge falls under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential punishment of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The trial resumes.
