M'sian Women Recounts Stories Of Being Discriminated Against In Ramadan For Ordering Food During Their Period

In Islam, menstruating women are not obliged to fast due to health reasons. In Malaysia however, sightings of Muslim women eating during the day in the holy month is still considered a societal offense.

For instance, Malaysian women on Twitter have come forward in sharing their unpleasant experiences of dealing with certain food delivery riders during the month of Ramadan.

"Ordered food at 12 PM. When I picked up the food the rider told me, "Ordering food during the day on the holy month, have you no shame?" Man I might actually start plastering my bloody pad on my forehead next time!"

Another woman recounted similar experience where the food delivery rider refused to place the food at her door and instead left it three blocks away from her house. When asked, the rider simply answered, "I don't want to be sinful."

This type of discrimination exists not only against Muslim women in Malaysia, but the men as well.

According to one man on Twitter, he once helped his housemate in ordering food during Ramadan as he was suffering from gastric and was not fit to fast. When the food came, the food delivery rider decided to criticise his behaviour, assuming that he wasn't fasting.

He was then forced to show his housemate's MC slip just to proof himself.

Many Twitter users have expressed their opinions regarding this issue, urging riders and everyone else to practice compassion and empathy, as people who aren't capable of fasting are often riddled with health or other personal issues that are none of our concerns.
