In a bizarre incident, a man on Facebook, Syafiq Syahmi Sazali, found himself in an unusual situation when he was handed a handwritten boarding pass, a departure from the typical computer-generated ones. The incident occurred when the man faced issues during the online self-check-in process for his Air Asia flight.
Upon encountering difficulties with the self-check-in, the man sought assistance at the counter. Much to his surprise, he was handed a handwritten boarding pass. Taking to Facebook, he shared this out-of-the-ordinary experience, explaining that it was his first encounter with such a boarding pass, and he inferred that it was a result of the flight tickets being oversold.
According to him, the overlap in tickets led to the issuance of handwritten boarding passes. He was informed that the flight had been overbooked, and those passengers unable to secure a seat were offered spots on the subsequent flight. The rationale behind this approach was to minimize wasted seats.
The man disclosed that upon inquiring with the airline crew, he was informed that such occurrences were commonplace in the aviation industry. Additionally, passengers were presented with a choice either stick to their original flight or opt for the next one while receiving a compensation of $50 (~RM235). He emphasized that this method aimed to maximize customer occupancy before rearranging passengers based on their preferences.
