Legendary Malaysian squash player Nicol David has added another remarkable achievement to her illustrious career. The eight-time world champion was officially inducted into the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Hall of Fame on December 1 in Hong Kong.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Nicol shared her emotions about receiving the prestigious honor, describing it as a defining moment in her life. "Inducted in the Hall of Fame. Today (December 1) is a very meaningful day. I was reflecting on this honour for the last few weeks and what it means to me and I think this officially shows me that I made history which is something I always struggle to believe. " she wrote.
Nicol, 41, is only the third person to be recognized in the PSA Hall of Fame, which was established earlier this year to honor individuals who have significantly impacted the sport. She dedicated this milestone to her parents, coaches, and Malaysia, expressing her gratitude for their unwavering support throughout her journey.
Beyond the court, Nicol has shifted her focus to her foundation, the Nicol David Organisation, which works to uplift children, families, and communities across Malaysia. In her post, she expressed her hope that her current efforts would gain recognition on a global scale. "I feel like now I can finally relax, knowing I gave my all during my career," she said.
According to Bernama, the squash icon's achievements are legendary. With eight world championships, five British Open titles, and multiple gold medals from the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and World Games, Nicol has left an indelible mark on the sport. She turned professional in 2000 and held the world number-one ranking for an astounding 109 months, cementing her status as one of the greatest female squash players of all time.
In 2018, Nicol's legacy was further solidified when she was voted the greatest female squash player in history in a PSA poll. Now, her Hall of Fame induction is a testament to her unparalleled contributions to the sport.
As Nicol continues to inspire the next generation through her foundation, her story stands as a beacon of perseverance, excellence, and the power of giving back.
