Five people were injured early this morning when an express bus veered off the road and crashed into a ditch along the southbound lane of the North-South Expressway.
According to NST, the accident occurred at approximately 3:56 AM, leaving 11 passengers trapped inside the bus after the vehicles doors became jammed. Rescuers from the Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the scene, where they had to break the bus windscreen to safely evacuate the trapped passengers.
According to Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Muhammad Farhan Ahmad, quick action by the emergency team ensured the safe removal of all passengers from the bus.
The bus driver and one of the injured passengers received treatment on-site, while three others were taken to hospital.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, and traffic along the expressway was briefly affected due to the rescue operations.
The North-South Expressway remains one of Malaysia's busiest highways, especially during long weekends and festive seasons, prompting constant calls for road safety vigilance.
