The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) is stepping up efforts to manage the stray dog population by offering free adoptions from its shelter in Bandar Sultan Suleiman, Port Klang.
Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain shared that MBDK's Health Department, through its Canine Unit, has been actively rescuing stray dogs and rehoming them through this initiative.
"As of 18 February, our team has rounded up 139 stray dogs. Most of them are friendly and just need a loving home. We encourage the public to adopt instead of buying," he said.
MBDK takes in these dogs based on public complaints, and after a seven-day waiting period, they are put up for adoption. Abd Hamid emphasized that giving these dogs a second chance not only provides them with a better life but also helps reduce the growing stray population.
The adoption process is simple: prospective pet owners need to visit the shelter, register their details, get the dog vaccinated, and pay an RM10 fee for a license tag.
In addition to free adoptions, MBDK is also running weekly vaccination programmes at discounted rates and organizing on-the-spot dog licensing events. These initiatives aim to encourage responsible pet ownership while ensuring adopted dogs are properly tagged and cared for.
Residents interested in adopting or participating in these programmes are encouraged to visit MBDKs official channels for more information on event dates and locations.
