23-Year-Old Uni Student Became The Youngest COVID-19 Death Case In Malaysia

It was announced yesterday (April 9) by the Health Director-General, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, at the live conference of COVID-19 latest update in Malaysia, there was an increment of 2 death cases yesterday.

It came as a shock to Malaysians as the 67th death case was a 23-year-old uni student who has a history of thyroid disease in Sarawak. As reported by the New Straits Times, the deceased who studied in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sarawak General Hospital on March 30 after she experienced difficulties in breathing.

Dr. Noor Hisham further revealed that the deceased was linked to the cluster that involved a gathering at a church in Kuching. Although she was not one of the attendees of the gathering, she was identified as the fifth generation of the cluster.

“She came late for treatment, in which, this patient was admitted when her infection had already reached Category 4. The patient needed breathing assistance from ventilators before she eventually succumbed (from the infection),” he disclosed to the reporters of the New Straits Times.

A press release released by the Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday too mentioned that the deceased was pronounced dead on April 9 at 9.45 am.
