According to the Deputy Health Minister, Malaysia records almost 20,000 of recovered Covid-19 patients now suffering from Post-Covid Syndrome or long Covid.
In a statement issued in Dewan Rakyat today (December 8), Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali said that those with long Covid exhibited five major symptoms:
- Lethargy (78.9%)
- Breathing difficulties when performing certain tasks (52.9%)
- Coughing (18.1%)
- Insomnia (14.5%)
- Anxiety (10.4%)
He then added that most patients would experience the symptoms around four to 12 weeks post-recovery, while others only after the 12 week period.
Replying to a question raised by Lukanisman Awang Sauni (GPS-Sibuti), Dr Noor Azmi explained that a total of 19,890 Covid-19 patients were given access to follow up treatment and medication as of November 2021. These patients were referred for treatment at 41 public and private health facilities, apart from the Sungai Buloh Hospital and the UiTM Training Hospital.
Dr Noor Azmi noted that the treatment provided covered a range of health issues pertaining to respiratory, cardiovascular and even mental health.
